Digital Marketing Trends for Australian Businesses

Digital marketing trends for Australian businesses

This article is kept current. It began as our predictions for 2025 and is revised as those trends play out, so the date above tells you when it was last reviewed. The short version: the trends we called in 2024 have held, and one of them has moved faster than we expected. AI is no longer just a tool marketers use. It now sits between your customer and your website.

AI answers now sit between your customer and your website

The biggest change since this piece was first written is where the answer appears. Google's AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot increasingly answer a commercial question before the searcher sees a single link. The businesses that get named inside that answer win the enquiry; the ones that merely rank underneath it often don't get the click at all.

That is a different job from traditional SEO. Ranking a page is no longer enough; the page has to be structured so an AI system can quote it. In practice that means direct answers to the questions your buyers actually ask, structured data that tells the machine what the page is, a consistent picture of your business across the web, and content with a real point of view rather than generic filler. We describe this work as answer engine optimisation and generative engine optimisation, and it now runs alongside every SEO programme we deliver.

Hyper-personalisation is now the baseline

Consumers have become more discerning, and businesses have to adapt to meet their evolving needs. By using data and analytics properly, businesses can create personalised experiences that drive real results, from the email sequence a new lead receives to the landing page a returning visitor sees.

The key to successful hyper-personalisation is understanding the customer's journey and tailoring your marketing to meet their needs at each step of it. With the data and analytics now at hand, businesses can create experiences that genuinely resonate with their customers.

What has changed since 2024 is the tooling. Personalisation that once needed a marketing automation specialist can now be run by AI agents inside the CRM, which brings it within reach of businesses that could never have justified the headcount.

AI has moved from the strategy deck into the daily workflow

The integration of artificial intelligence into digital marketing is no longer a buzzword. It is how the work gets done. AI-powered tools automate routine tasks, surface insights into customer behaviour, and support data-driven decisions, and the businesses using them well are more efficient, more effective and faster to adapt.

AI has changed the way businesses approach digital marketing. By automating routine processes and surfacing actionable insights, AI-powered tools let businesses be more efficient, more effective and more agile in their marketing.

That prediction has played out, with one qualification we would add in 2026. The wins have come from pairing AI with senior judgement, not from replacing it. At Zib the agents handle the repetition: bid management, creative variants, content drafts and reporting briefs. A senior strategist still decides what to test, what to kill and what the numbers mean. Businesses that handed the whole job to a tool have generally produced more output and fewer results.

Video is vertical first

Video continues to dominate, with a clear shift toward vertical formats made for social platforms. With TikTok, YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels absorbing more attention every year, businesses need to prioritise video content that is native to those formats rather than repurposed from a landscape edit. Short, direct and shot for the phone outperforms polished and long almost every time.

What this means for your business

Four things, in order of leverage. First, make sure your site answers the questions buyers ask, in plain language, with structured data behind it, so that both Google and the AI assistants can cite you. Second, keep your Google Business Profile, reviews and business details consistent everywhere they appear, because AI systems build their picture of your business from all of them. Third, put AI to work on the repetitive parts of your marketing, but keep a senior human on the judgement calls. Fourth, measure the whole thing in leads and revenue rather than rankings and impressions, because that is the only number that survives a change in how search works.
